“So admit it….Don’t I look cool in the game screens? Those long, muscular legs on my sturdy toned frame….I’m the perfect specimen of a man ….What!?!? You say I look fat and my quadruple chin looks like a waterfall of flab? Shut up! That’s just because you have your television set up on widescreen display!” – Wario, Wario World
Could that quote (or at least some variation ) just as easily be from you? If so, you’re ripe for a Wario costume for Halloween or your next Super Mario Bros. event. You see, without a fun loving supporting cast, Super Mario Bros. would not nearly be as enjoyable. They certainly would not have been able to survive as a video game franchise for over 20 years.
So, instead of settling for the iconic Mario costume or Luigi costume, you can flip the switch in a Wario costume. Wario may not get the babe (Princess Peach) in the end, but he certainly has just as much fun.
Wario is the obese, yet surprisingly muscular, hot-tempered, greedy anti-hero, and Mario’s yellow-and-purple clad rival. Wario’s greed pushes him to commit malevolent acts, such as the seizing of Mario’s Castle.
Due to his money grubbing personality, Wario is disliked by many citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. Wario has also proven to be very cunning as he has tricked Mario on more than a few occasions.
Similar to those of Mario and Luigi, the Wario costume includes a character jumpsuit, an inflatable belly, white gloves, a Wario hat and a self-adhesive moustache (in Wario’s signature zig-zag style!). Add a pair of black shoes, and your costume will be complete.
The fun part of playing Wario is the very obvious association with Mario himself. Wario is a combination of Mario’s name and warui, a Japanese adjective word for bad. It was created as an exaggerated and unrelated nemesis to Mario, which was first featured in 1992. Wario is an anti-hero from the Warioware and Wario Land series.
As long as Wario is around, the streets may never be safe again…at least not for Mario. So have some fun on Halloween and make Mario work for his hero status as you set tricks and traps for him in a Wario costume.
